Just Sit Still

Posted · Add Comment

Do you remember when you were just a wiggly little kid and your mother would give you that look you knew so well.  It was the one that reminded you to just sit still. You didn’t need her to say a word.  You just had to look at her face, and all the wiggling stopped.

It’s not quite as easy for God to give us that knowing look when He wants us to come and sit still before Him.  We may not see His face, but I promise you, He wants us to stop all the craziness of life, stop wiggling around from one thing to the next and come close to Him and just sit still.  Why?

Think about it. Why would the Creator God, the God of the entire universe want you to simply sit still? It seems to me that what He wants is for you to do two things.  He wants you to know Him, and He wants you to listen to Him.  Now, the way I see it, the only real way you get to know anyone is if you spend time with them.  You have to have conversations and maybe share ideas or a good meal. You have to talk and listen and talk and listen.  When you do that, you’re able to become friends because you know each other so well.

Most of us have trouble putting our focus on just one thing at a time.  We’re so good at multi-tasking that we do it without even thinking. Today, God is calling you to do just one thing. Stop all the chaos and simply be quiet.  God wants to talk with you. He wants you to get to know each other.  As you recover from your health issues, you may discover that spending quiet time with God heals your heart and your mind and your body all at the same time. Come closer to God and just sit still!

God says, “Be still and know that I am God.”

Psalm 46:10, NCV
