Mark on the Move

An Invisible Shield

Posted · Add Comment

In Bible times, great warriors and kings had armor bearers, those who walked before them carrying their shield.  Whether that shield truly protected them from the arrows of their enemies, I’m not sure.  You and I probably don’t expect someone to walk in front of us with a shield to protect us from others, but maybe we should, or maybe we should be more aware of seeking God’s protection.

The windshield on my car is a good thing. It’s right in front of me, protecting me from the rain and the insects.  In fact, if it gets a crack in it, I go out right away to get it fixed. I want to be protected from all the little things that might come flying my way as I drive.

You may wonder if you’ve suffered any kind of health crisis whether you still have a shield; whether God is still protecting you.  I want to remind you today that He is.  He is always your rock and your protector. He is ready any moment to help you deflect all those little things that might come flying your way.  Like the armor bearers of old, He walks before you and defends you and gets you to a place of safety.

God’s protective shield is invisible to you, but it is powerful just the same.  It guards you and keeps you safe from any harm.  If you’re uncertain about that, ask God directly to be your shield, your defender against any of the slings and arrows of the world. He sees you and He knows you and He continually walks before you.  I think this is just another good reason why we don’t want to move so fast in this life that we get ahead of Him. Let God lead the way and as you follow Him, He will be your shield and your guide. May God bless you and keep you close to His side today.

My God is my rock. I can run to him for safety. He is my shield and my saving strength, my defender and my place of safety. The Lord saves me from those who want to harm me.

2 Samuel 22:3, NCV
