You Can Be the Messenger!

Posted · Add Comment

I’ve grown up listening to messengers. You probably have too. After all, we looked to the pastor of our churches to be a messenger. Sometimes we could even imagine our mothers as messengers. But when it comes to things of God, before my stroke experience, I would not have thought of myself as a messenger. After all, messengers were like angels. They were perfect! They didn’t have any flaws! They represented God’s holiness.

To some degree, all of that is still true, especially when you consider angelic messengers, like the ones who announced the birth of our Lord Jesus. But now, I see things a bit differently. Now it appears that God wants to use my stroke experience to bridge the gap that may exist for people who have not yet surrendered to His call. He has put me up in front of people to speak to them and to deliver His message.

Did He do that because I suddenly had lost all my imperfections? Of course, you know the answer. I’m still an imperfect being, but I have a perfect God who has called me into action. He has called me to deliver His message to you and to anyone who will listen because He has amazing things to say. He wants us to understand that even today the blind can receive their sight and the lame can walk. Right now, the deaf can hear and any number of other diseases can be healed. He continues to proclaim His good news and He does it through people like me and like you! He raises us up by His own hand and gives us a place to shine His light. Let’s be people who continually deliver His message.

So he replied to the messengers, “Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.”
Luke 7:22, NIV
