Here we are, it’s the first Monday of the New Year and there can’t be a better time than this to seek some inspiring challenges and opportunities. Maybe the place to start is to do everything you can to get out of your comfort zone? Oh, I can hear some of you saying, “Mark, you have just lost your mind. Nobody wants to be out of their comfort zone.”
It’s funny, but before my stroke in 2007, I would have agreed with you. Now, I know that if God had not moved me out of my comfort zone, I would not be doing some of the work for Him, that I’m doing now. This year I will be a spokesperson for the American Heart Association and I will have my first book released in March, called A Stroke of Faith. Neither of those things would have happened if God had not pushed me out of my comfort zone. I would not have surrendered my life to Him as I’ve done now, simply because I now know that He is the only one in control. He knew I needed to take the challenges that life brought to me with that stroke and move them into opportunities.
I can tell you for sure that when you surrender to the God of all comfort, He will give you new ways to shine for Him. He will refresh your walk with Him and give you work that you may not have even known you could do. I certainly didn’t think I’d be writing a book or speaking in front of audiences. I didn’t even know I’d share my heart and my faith the way I do now, but I am grateful for the new life God has given me. I pray that He gives you a new life in Him as well.
We’re off to a great New Year! Get out of your comfort zone and you’ll have an amazing year indeed! May God bless you and those you love.
Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.
Psalm 23:4, NLT
