When faced with the challenge of stroke recovery in 2007, I was not happy. I couldn’t understand why I had to go though the process. One day as my wife was driving me home from rehabilitation, I was lamenting regarding my situation. During this encounter, she looked at me and simply said “what if God allowed you to have two strokes, so He can show people you can recover from them”. I must admit, it caught my attention. I had not considered that at all while I was brooding. Even after considering her statement, I wondered why He would use me: Though I attended church, at that time, I wasn’t active in serving and I had never even attended bible study. It made no sense to me that He would be using me. Shortly thereafter, I saw an internet posting that simply said God had used them. It went on to state how God used Noah, Jacob, Moses, David and Rahab. They were not perfect individuals, but God used them anyway. During the same time frame during his sermon, my pastor said, “You cannot out sin God’s grace”. This all got me to consider: what if He is using me? I decided that my situation could be God’s calling and decided to accept that. I committed to do all I could in recovery, so I could carry out His plan. After my renewal I have committed to help others in their restoration journey, to continue to show God’s plan.
But indeed for this purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth. Exodus 9: 16(NKJV)
