Have you ever considered interviewing yourself? Imagine that the person you are right now could have a talk with the person you were five years ago. It may sound like a crazy notion, but after my two strokes, I’m here to say my interview answers are a lot different now than they used to be. So here are a couple of my interview questions to myself. Perhaps they’ll resonate with you.
Question: “Mark, is there any significant difference between the guy you were before the strokes and the guy you are today?”
MM: “That’s a good question. Before the strokes I would have said I was a good guy. I did a lot of the things everyone else does. I worked hard, took care of my family, worked like a energizer bunny, came home, and got up early the next day to do it all over again. Let’s say, I was consistent in my efforts toward my work and my family and even helping others as much as I could.”
Question: “So, are you a different guy now?”
MM: “Yes! Now I’m not just a good guy. Now I’m a CALLED guy. I feel like I’ve been called by God to speak his name out loud. I used to go to church. The difference now is that I want to take the church to the world. I used to look the part on any Sunday morning. I had a great tie, a good smile and gave my fair share in the offering plate. Now, I want more than that! Now I FEEL the part. Now I understand what it means to have a personal Savior and want to share that message with the whole world.”
Today, I urge any of you who might read my posts, don’t wait for a stroke to make you stop and listen to what God is calling you to do. Seek him! Make it your priority to find out what God has for you and what he wants you to do. You’re special to him and he likes that you’re in church on Sunday morning for sure, but he likes it even better when you take church to others every day of the week.
Today just might be your day to answer his call.
But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.
