We probably all have times when we like the idea of getting a “do over,” or a second chance to make life better. Unfortunately, it often takes a crisis for us to realize the blessings we had in the first place. The good news is God loves to give us second chances, and even third and fourth ones. He knows we’re prone to messing up, but if we keep trying, He’s right there cheering us on to win a new day.
An illness crisis, helps you appreciate the gift of having a second chance. You wake up each day and even though you move a whole lot slower than you did before, you praise God that you can move at all. You go to breakfast and eat your oatmeal and remember back to those days when you could barely swallow anything. The peanut butter jar reminds you that it was the first real food you could eat and keep in your stomach. Every day becomes a new chance for you to take one more step, enjoy one more moment with the people you love, and give God the glory for giving you back your life.
I am grateful that God gave me a second chance because He has blessed me with the opportunity to become a better man, a more intentional person, and a more devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He also gave me the chance to write a whole new ending to my life story.
You can too! God is the hero and you are the one who gets to tell His miraculous deeds. Share your heart with those around you so they know all that God has done for you. He gave you this second chance for a reason. Give Him all the thanks and praise. Let’s all show Him today what we plan to do with our second chance at life.
If anyone belongs to Christ, there is a new creation. The old things have gone; everything is made new! All this is from God. Through Christ, God made peace between us and himself, and God gave us the work of telling everyone about the peace we can have with him.
