I am a numbers guy! I know how to create spreadsheets that tabulate gains and losses. I know how to balance the budget and save for the future. After all, I’ve been trained to do those things and I’ve managed to do them quite well.
The thing is, there isn’t much about that kind of life that makes me particularly interesting. We all have talents or skills or things we’re good at and that’s great, but after I had a stroke I found out that those are not the only things that are important. I learned that it didn’t matter how good I was at calculating a profit and loss statement, or developing a dynamic business plan, I was not going to be able to utilize those skills to help me recover from two strokes.
When we have a physical set back, not unlike when we have a financial set back, we find ourselves weighing what has happened in terms of what we gained and what we lost. I’m going to be straight with you and tell you that when I first woke up from that induced coma and discovered that the world I knew had changed, all I could think about was what I lost. I couldn’t even imagine that there was a thing to be gained from this. Now, nearly ten years later, I can tell you that I think very differently.
I lost a few things by having a stroke and the truth is I could have very easily lost my life, but God had other plans. God wanted me to stop and be still and hear His voice and know that He was totally in control of my situation. It has taken time for me to understand everything God wants me to do now, but I can tell you for certain that I have gained more in Him in this experience than I would ever be able to put on a loss ledger. I have been given a chance to be successful in a way I didn’t even know I wanted to be. I’m guessing God is pretty good with numbers too.
He is the One who numbers our days and He is the One who knows every hair on our heads. When He knows us to such detail, we can be sure that standing closer to Him means success every time.
If you need a win today and want to gain a new perspective and a renewed heart of joy, then let God help you balance your book of life. He knows exactly what you need to do to win!
What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?
