God wants to speak to us. He wants us to listen for His voice and direction. It helps to simply sit down, quiet our spirits and let God in. He probably has a lot of things to tell us if we would simply just stop everything that distracts us and wait for Him; really listen to Him.
I know that before my stroke I was always too busy to listen to God. I had more important things to do. I had to build companies and manage people and raise money and work, work, work! I didn’t have time to be quiet.
The problem is that when we don’t have time to be quiet, we can’t hear God. I couldn’t hear God and I’m pretty sure He was trying to get through to me. He had to stop me in my tracks. He had to get my attention in a way that would cause me to be still. I can tell you that when you have a stroke and your neck is in a brace for several weeks and you can’t move your head or your body, you are nothing but still.
That’s what happened to me and I learned what it means to be still with God and to simply wait and rest and rely on Him. I learned that all my busyness and all my business was not getting me where He wanted me to go.
If you find yourself really distracted by the world or life or your work, don’t wait to have a stroke to stop the world from spinning. Stop it yourself. Sit down and wait. Sit down and listen. God has a lot to say to you.
I’m still learning to let the noise of life go away so I can hear His voice.
Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!
Psalm 46:10 (NKJV)
